Dunce hats, dictionaries and the cane...ISM turned back the clocks to 1881 and took the children on an immersive experience back to the Victorian era. A major change in school life, the children learned the Victorian way of schooling.

Turning back the clocks to 1881, the children of Lower Campus immersed themselves in a typical Victorian School day. All whiteboards and iPads gone, replaced with chalkboards and silence.

In the morning, the children entered the class in silence and were met by their strict teachers. While this may sound unpleasant, they all had fun testing the boundaries and seeing what they could get away with. If sitting up straight while balancing  a dictionary on their heads was not enough, the infamous ‘dunce hat’ made its appearance and wandered around the class while the children felt its power.

This experience provided the children with an insight into the life of children in the 1800s. From losing their right to be heard to copying facts from a chalkboard about the rulers of the British Empire, they experienced it all. I think it is safe to say that they were all glad to return to the amazing world that we live in today. Coming away from this, it is clear that they all have a much greater appreciation for the lives that they live today.
