Our NTC classes are special additions to the standard curriculum and are taught by our experienced team of teachers for three hours each week. Our younger learners expand their vocabulary through play in fun and engaging activities, while our older students focus on building their spelling, grammar, reading, and writing skills in Dutch.
For students whose first language is Dutch, we know that research increasingly shows that continuing language and literacy in a child's first language, alongside their growth in another language, boosts their overall academic performance. The more students advance in their first language, the more they will achieve in their second language.
NTC classes are available to Dutch students studying outside NAS Jakarta from groups 7–8 of Dutch Primary education and Years 1-3 and higher for Secondary education. Dutch language lessons are already woven into the education programme for our English primary classes.
We test students in the same way as children in the Netherlands, utilising Dutch books and methods. Students collaborate and gain a sense of community from group work in Dutch.
We keep parents up to date with their child’s progress through weekly letters that give an overview of the week’s learning and an overview of homework. We warmly encourage parents to support children with homework to reinforce their lessons and to use our the extensive library of Dutch books.
