Art: Year 7 Artists visit the Erawan Museum

St Andrews International School Bangkok Year 7 art students spent the day at the Erawan Museum, drawing and photographing the beautiful artefacts and scenery.

On Monday 5 February, the Art Department took the whole of Year 7 to the Erawan Museum in Samut Prakan, on the outskirts of Bangkok. The purpose of the trip was to gather visual resources to fund a new project on “Mythical Beasts”. The Erawan Museum was an ideal destination for this because of the fantastic selection of Thai statues and sculptures. The museum is renowned for its giant three-headed bronze elephant statue, which sits on top of the main museum building. The elephant originally derives from Hindu religion and contain a depiction of the cosmos inside the statue itself. Our students spent time drawing and photographing the artefacts and beautiful ‘Himmapan’ gardens, including the intricate Kinnaree statues. They will go on to use this visual research to develop ideas for their own mythical beast paintings.
