Year 8 have been drawing from still life and developing Cubist style work.
Cubism was a European art movement in the Twentieth century, with Picasso being the most well known and influential artist of the group. Cubist artists were interested in distorting shapes to create improvised artwork. St Andrews International School Bangkok Year 8 students have been studying the art of the Cubists and have been using their ideas to inform their own creative interpretations. They have started by drawing real objects from direct observation, such as still life arrangements, as well as looking at how objects like glasses distort shape. Here are some examples of work in progress, from classwork and sketchbooks. We think you’ll agree that Year 8 are very creative.
Drawn for homework this is Pong’s ‘dragon eye’. It is based on detailed observation of an alligator’s eye and has a great range of textures and colours.
