In the secondary assembly today year 7s formed 4 samba bands and performed for the whole of secondary school. This performance was for the students to show what they had been working on during music lessons and to be assessed for their knowledge and understanding of samba music. Each group prepared a samba performance in class, using samba instruments such as surdo, caixas, shakers, agogos and tambourines. They had to demonstrate everything they have learned about samba music by combining the typical features (such as call and response) into a group performance. The assembly was a brilliant display from our talented year 7s and after hearing each of the performances I am sure that secondary students are now ready to begin their carnival holiday.
