Here at The British College of Brazil (BCB) our first ever Year 12 cohort have started their IBDP journey and it is important that they both embrace the first year, have an open mind, take (healthy) risks and enjoy themselves!!!
However, in the back of their minds they need to start thinking about University and what kind of pathway they would like to take.
In the context we are in (The British College of Brazil in the Americas region) we believe that guidance in UK entry, US entry and Brazilian entry is paramount. Our role is to guide our pupils but they know they are the ones who are going to have to do the walking along the path they choose.
Depending on this path there are different timelines with the US being the earliest, the U.K with UCAS starting in May 2020 and Brazil typically being an entrance exam (vestíbulo) at the end of year 13.
You can see from the US timeline that our Year 12s are considered Juniors and next year as Seniors, so what they can do this year is practice SATs and also perhaps visit some universities either in the U.S or more likely here in Sao Paulo meet visiting representatives.
There are three main ways of graduating from BCB which are 1) with the full IBDP diploma (3 HL, 3 SL and the core - CAS, EE and TOK), 2) IBDP certificates for each of the (6) courses and core that they choose to be examined in and here we are very clear what our pupils need to go to which University and finally 3) the Brazilian diploma.
Whichever pathway our pupils choose we are committed to supporting them to be ambitious throughout the whole process and finding them the best and most appropriate University that matches their needs.
