Reading Projects During Term 1

Reading Projects During Term 1 We at the MFL department have reinforced the importance of reading for students. Recently, each year group participated in reading projects that, despite the varied proposals, have as a common objective the academic role of students, as well as (providing) a repertoire of life, experiences, possibilities, exchanges and discoveries about themselves and the world around you.

We at the MFL department have reinforced the importance of reading for students. Recently, each year group participated in reading projects that, despite the varied proposals, have as a common objective the academic role of students, as well as (providing) a repertoire of life, experiences, possibilities, exchanges and discoveries about themselves and the world around you.

For students who learn Portuguese as a second (third or fourth language) these projects were the opportunity to have contact for the first time with a book in Portuguese; for others, the chance to expand their literary taste; not only "giving a chance" to a book in Portuguese - as they say - but also looking for more challenging books. Reading projects also met another important requirement for the training of our students: contact with multi-semiotic and multimedia texts, with critical thinking. According to the Common National Curricular Base,

Reflect on the transformations that have occurred in the fields of activities due to the development of communication and information technologies, the use of hypertext and hypermedia and the emergence of Web 2.0: new discourse genres and new language practices typical of digital culture, transmutation or reworking of the genres according to the transformations that the text goes through (in formatting and due to the convergence of media and hypertextual functioning), new forms of interaction and sharing of texts / content / information, reconfiguration of the role of the reader, to also be a producer, among others, as a way to expand the possibilities of participation in the digital culture and to contemplate the new and multi-tools (BNCC, Elementary School)

These moments prepare students for the new, for the unpredictable, producing new meanings in the world, new ways of communicating, acting and expressing themselves. Active and contextualized reading allows the development of critical thinking and autonomy, essential for a global citizen. Finally, these projects will continue throughout the academic year and we are looking forward to seeing our students’ creativity in action again!
