Ten students from BCB are on their way to the annual global games competition in January held exclusively for Nord Anglia Education schools across The Americas.
They will compete in a range of sports, from flag football to track and field, and swimming to sand volleyball and I have the privilege of accompanying them.
The Global Games will take place at Windermere Preparatory School near Orlando, Florida, and features five days of sports competitions, activities, and the chance to make new friends from Nord Anglia schools across North and South America.
The values of teamwork, ambition and sportsmanship are at the heart of the philosophy of the global games. Six-time world NBA championship coach, Phil Jackson once said “The strength of the team is each individual member. The strength of each member is the team.”
This term, in PE, key stage three students have put their teamwork skills to the test, developing communication, cooperation, and strategy in the unfamiliar sport of flag football.
Pictured above, the beginning of a well-rehearsed attacking play from the BCB Broncos, resulting in a 40 metre swerving dash to the end zone by one of year nine’s up and coming wide receivers. More impressive than the individual brilliance that led to the touchdown, was the teamwork that preceded it. Every member of that team contributed to designing a step-by-step play to outwit their opponents. The level of cooperation and communication on that field was remarkable and would have rivaled most FTSE 100 company boardrooms (I imagine).
Individual commitment to a group effort is what counts – it can make a team work, a company work, and a school work. In the short amount of time I have worked at BCB I have experienced unwavering commitment by both staff and students to pursue a holistic and empowering education. With this in mind, I relish the opportunity for BCB to compete against students from across the Americas at the 2022 Global Games, and I have the utmost confidence that our teamwork will help us succeed.
