As part of the Expressive Arts week at The British College of Brazil, in which various forms of artistic expression such as painting, graffiti, dance and music were celebrated, the Portuguese Language Department selected the textual genre Poetry to be worked with the classes of the Primary and presented at the end of the week to all students at a Sarau.
For those unfamiliar with the term, a Sarau represents a literary festival that includes the exhibition of works or artistic and cultural expressions such as those mentioned above.
Taking advantage of the curricular component of the following years - Y1 (Use of rhymes), Y2 (Quadrinhas), Y3 (Traditional poems) and Y4 (Traditional and concrete poems), students had the opportunity to explore the resources used in poetic construction and leave their imagination and creativity flow. The results were productions of poems very well elaborated and illustrated, adding elements seen during Portuguese classes.
At the end of the writing process, there were rehearsals for the preparation of the Sarau, whose participation by the students was a success - many of them volunteered to read their poems in front of their colleagues with great ease and enthusiasm. It is important to emphasize that these events are moments of motivation to the development of a courageous attitude of the students when exhibiting their work and reciting the same before the school community.
