Since the introduction of the Personal Data Protection Act (PDPA) in 2019, St Andrews International School has been working hard to understand the implications of this new law and has implemented policy and procedures school-wide to comply with this law.
The school has provided specialist training to staff, ECA providers and the wider St Andrews community and is working hard to protect personal data and to ensure that data subjects understand their rights and responsibilities set out by the PDPA.
In August 2020, the school appointed Rob Parker as the Data Protection Officer. Rob has a strong background in data privacy and data security and is known widely in the Asia Pacific region as a specialist in this field.
Since Rob joined the school in August 2020, he has spoken at a number of conferences on data privacy and cybersecurity including the International School Authority Thailand (ISAT) conference which aimed to help school leaders in Thailand understand the implications of this law and how to safeguard data and also at a global conference with 21st Century Learning on cybersecurity with the aim to help school leaders understand what safeguards need to be put in place for cybersecurity and data protection.
Rob has worked with the all teams in the St Andrews community and beyond over the last 18 months including helping the FOBISIA team and FOBISIA member schools to begin their journey on data protection and how organisations in Thailand can begin their data protection journey. In the coming weeks, we will be sharing an updated version of the St Andrews Personal Information Collection Statement policy which will hopefully give you a better understanding of this data protection in Thailand and how this is expected to affect our wider community.
