Dear Parents,

We have had a couple of extremely successful weeks with our students who have engaged with the Nord Anglia Global Campus activities. Five BCB students have been recognised globally by not only Nord Anglia, but two experts in their fields.

Most recently three of our secondary students, Maria, Victoria and Catalina, won this year’s creative writing competition. This is an outstanding achievement as their writing was judged against possible entrants from 69 schools across 29 countries; amazing achievement girls!

The writing inspiration came from the Goodnight Stories for Rebel Girls Series and was introduced by one of its editors, Maithy Vu. She was also a guest judge. The story had to be about a climate change rebel so also had great learning around the Sustainable Development Goal 13 – taking action to combat climate change. It is not easy to write a story in 250 words, you have to choose them very carefully.

The judges were incredibly impressed and Maithy Vu had this to say about their story set in Brazil, ‘Marina Silva – Amazon Hero’. “The choice of Marina Silva as a subject allows the piece to focus on the deforestation of the Amazon rainforest. The writer connects Marina's childhood spent rubber tapping to her future spent fighting to save those very trees. It emphasizes the idea of a woman from humble beginnings rising to power and inspires confidence in the reader. The illustration's colors and pencil sketchwork come together to create a unique style.”

Before this we discovered that two Year 8 students had their MIT challenge projects selected to be reviewed by the founder of the MIT Media Lab Spaace exploration Initiave, Dr. Ariel Ekblaw.

Helena and Chiara, designed the Hydrowave, to enable astronauts to rehydrate food in space. You can watch their presentation in this video which showcases the few chosen projects amongst the thousands of entries from Nord Anglia students around the world. Their project if you want to skip straight to it starts just after 2 minutes and 35 seconds of the video.

Students around the world have continued to use many of the opportunities provided by Nord Anglia’s Global Campus and you can continue to access activities and competitions. If MIT and STEAM are your passion, then do encourage your children to participate. Please click here to go directly to the page with the next MIT challenge, maybe we can get more winners. Your children just login with their school details if requested.

We have so much to celebrate at school and many outlets of social media to do this. If you are a Twitter user, I have started an account for you to follow things I see and am impressed with, and maybe an occasional useful article to read. To start following me please just search for PrincipalBcb. I just have a few test tweets on there currently but as soon as we get parent followers then I will start posting each week with news, events and fantastic learning.

Next Wednesday at 8:30 am, we have our Virtual Coffee Morning for the EYFS and Primary families, who will receive a link soon to connect on the day of the event. We are also organizing a future opportunity for Secondary parents and as soon as it is defined, it will be communicated properly.

Have a great weekend.
