I was reading the Secondary library newsletter and two things, quite related, caught my attention. The first was about the 10 happiest songs in the world and how these can give us an uplifting mood. The second was about the most watched video of all time on YouTube, again another piece of music or catchy tune.
I am a firm believer in the power of music, how it can affect our memories, remembering a certain time, place or person, and how it can affect our mood. My staff briefings always start with a piece of music, obviously not the perfect choice for all staff given my age and tastes, but something to capture the mood. Maybe next time I will choose a song from the 10 happiest songs article with something such as Katrina and the Waves ‘Walking on Sunshine, or ‘Dancing Queen’ by Abba. Our students and yourselves need to find ways to relax, to reduce anxiety, and have fun. Maybe music for them, or you, is that escape, I know it often is for me. The Secondary assembly this week was focussed on anxiety and how to find solutions when you are anxious. Maybe music could be one.
The second article is a song I was first introduced to in Vietnam, a song about a baby Shark, all with actions for young children to follow. It sticks in your mind and I could probably sing and perform it still today. However, it does show again the power of music, or a catchy children’s rhyme, that has caught the attention of children around the world, with over 7 billion plays. As the library article states, on a continuous loop this would have been playing now for over 30,000 years, incredible. In case you don’t know what I am talking about, click here to watch it but be careful, you and your family may get addicted.
Here at BCB we have a wonderful music program and fantastic music teachers who give opportunities to your children to compose, appreciate and play music that will create moods, feed imagination and as I have witnessed on some talent shows, in both Primary and Secondary school, provide wonderful entertainment to an audience. As a future leader, your children will have to be able to present, to have confidence, an excellent music program does help support all this.
Uniform Shop: This is to inform you all that the uniform shop is open for business on a Tuesday and Thursday and if you want to order something, we can arrange for it to be available on the day your child is in school for collection. We are also working on the second-hand uniform to get it ready for sale. Another gentle reminder that from January we should not be seeing any lions or ties from BSF. BCB will have been a Nord Anglia school for three years so the correct Nord Anglia uniform should be worn.
